A/C Low...
Has any one had there A/C bleed down after two years? So far I got 38,000 miles on a 2002 CTD and funny to see the A/C not as cold as it should be. The compressor cycles with MAX A/C on and fan high.
Is it okay to use the R-134A refill kits in Wal-Mart? I hope So??
I added I can of freon 134A with 2 Oz of compressor oil and it come up to 25 LBS on the low side. Compressor is no long cycling but I think I need more freon.
Someone ring in with the proper LBS setting for A/C (Low side)

A/C uncool!
I think my 96 holds aboult 2 lbs of 134a I pulled it down about 3 years ago checked for leaks ok. recharged and added a extra 1/2 lbs works great A/c is nice and cold I think the extra 1/2 lbs helps a lot. but I would not add much more hard on the compressor.

I do not have my 134a gauges handy, but if you look real close, they have a correlating temperature scale beneath the #'s scale. If you can get the temp reading on that scale to read around 28 degrees you should be close. The 28 degrees is the temperature of the 134a as it flashes to gas at the metering device at the evap coil. 28 degrees at the coil should yield a discharge air temperature of 36-38 degrees leavng the coil. If your pressure is any lower, you could start freezing up the coil which is usually indicated frome "smoke" blowing out of your vents when fan is on lower speed.
Check the underside of your hood for oil tracking marks above the pulley on the compressor. This usually indicates a faulty seal between the compressor and compressor clutch assembly. I think, with proper tools that this ceramic seal can be replaced while on the bench.
Good Luck,
Gary

I've got on of those cheap refill kits that has a pressure guage and a valve. The guage is kinda cheap. Color coded. I would like to know the pressure number so I can hit closer that the wide range this cheap thing got. 25 - 45 PSI is normal ??? or is it ???
Also when the A/C went low it exactly that just low not out. Before I started it had about 30 PSI without compressor running and when it did it would run down to about 10 PSI and cut out on the safety... (Good thing for safety switches).
I figure that the leak is very small and maybe that Wal-Mart R134a freon with seal conditioner might stop the leak.

With your windows open, A/C on high recirculate, when you get real close to being fully charged, the compressor should continuously run. Also, check your suction line into compressor as well as accumulator (big aluminum cylindrical thing up near firewall). Both should be sweating profusely when charge is close, (that is unless you are in an area where the humidity outside is below 40-50%). Again, when you get close to full charge the compressor should run continuously.
Good luck,
Gary
