A/C evaportator

well i finaly got done putting in my a/c evap wut a pain that was it took me 15 hrs. it was going smooth till the box that encloses the evap and heatercore fell off work bench when i took it apart. some of the bottom piece had broke off and cracked. buddy of mine who was helpin me had some special plastic glue for car bumpers and we sanded the crack and broken piece and clued it back togather.when i took the old evap out it looked like that it had been sitting in the bottom of the ocean for 100 years it had all sorts of leafs and crap stuck in it.you couild see the stain where the oil leaked out of it. if any boddy has to put one in there truck hope u have lots of patience for hiddin screws and workin in real tight quarters. if i know it would be this bad i would of brought it to dealer LOL.

Sorry about your misfortune. I did mine yesterday also, took 5 hours. I have one to do next weekend also. Should go a bit faster now I know where all the screws are.

Arrow Here's some incentive....

When I took my truck into the dealer for a valve adjustment, they diagnosed my a/c problem. I need a dryer (drier) and an evaporator and they only want $1200+ for the fix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Needless to say, I'm driving around with the windows open....often, as apparently, summer has arrived here early this year.
$1200+....and they said that with a straight face too!!

Yeah If I as charging someone to do it I'd want at least $1500, what a PITA. I just did mine about 1 month ago. I think they designed these evaporators to go bad every 5 years. What a crap design. They sit flat on one corner and all the stuff builds up there and rots it out. You really should replace the liquid line, heater core, and heater hoses also so it turns out costing a little more but I would hate to have to do this 2 years later for a bad heater core.

That's why I used Sealer to repair my Evap leak. Cost me $40, still blowing real cold air 14 months later with no problems yet. If it quits I'm trading in the truck.

See page two of THIS THREAD for info about the sealer. Four guys that I work with have used it with good results.

RAM, YOU MADE MY DAY!!!!!
I'm trying that sealer routine before I tear into replacing my evap.
I found it on Ebay....tho there's cheaper places around.
They said it was a tiny, tiny leak so maybe this'll work....
