A/C ...Compressor?

So I've read about the many OTHER problems about A/C, just curious on other opinions about this one.

Simple... A/C blows HOT air. I remember when it happened, I smelled something burning for a few seconds, then hot air. Sounds, or smells, like the compressor. It doesn't click on like it used to, so I am assuming that's what it is. I was wondering if something else may contribute to the demise of a compressor, based on previous experiences of others. Prior to it going out, I also remember the condensation not dripping anymore, it was flat coming out of the drain tube on the firewall.

Also, my fan is very weak until put on HI. Probably the recirc door? Correlation between the 2 ?




Here's something to think about... right after I smelled the burning related scent of my compressor, my built 45K mile Transmission went out, ALMOST INSTANTLY. Everything was fine, then extreme slipping within 1 mile, then no forward, then no reverse, then NOTHING. Tore it apart, had never seen anything like it. NO POWER ADDED. VERY weird coincidence!

Don't know about the trans but the a/c is tied to a module (TIPM) that can simulate a bad compressor, tho with the condensor flow into the cab and the burnt electric smell it sounds like you may just have to replace the whole enchilada. The dealer scanning device is the only thing that can tell you what is/ is not working with the modules....Good Luck.

Remember that the "clicking" is the compressor's clutch engaging. The clutch can go bad but the compressor can still be good. Like Dale29 said, it could be the TIPM and with the mileage you have, wire chafing could be an issue. I don't know if the 07's have the same issue with the AC wiring harness the 04's did.

Holy crap...it's HOT!

Thanks for the replies and tips. It's my first time in years since I've been to the Southeast... and with NO A/C! WOW, 95* w/humidity.... problem is scheduling. I just cant stop driving to get this fixed.

... I'm ASSUMING its the compressor, and of course I'm trying to get it done on a budget. So far I'm at $14K in parts in the last year-n-half for this thing. I just hate paying for labor, but is this a situation where I should let Dodge handle it to make sure everything is checked properly?
