bypassing your cat!

Was looking at replacing the stock exhaust on my 06 3500> The person at the off road store told me I could bypass the catalytic converter. Can I do this without any problems? I had a Dakota, and wasn't able to do it there, since there was a sensor issue there. I'm a not worried about emission issues, as I live in Canada, and it is still legal to run without a cat here. Thanks!
