Bypass the ECM? (liftpump)

anybody ever try bypassing the ecm and wiring there factory lift pump directly to the ignition? i installed a juice with attitude on my 2002 and noticed my lift pump just decides to shut off when ever it feels like it and i need to turn the key on and off a few times to start it back up. i am planning on throwing the factory pump in the junkpile but am feeling cheap atm and want to see if i can wait a few months before i spend anymore money on my truck

If you decide to bypass the LP you should consider a setup like this:

Ignition switched + to an oil pressure switch that's closed with oil pressure there (and a bypass with a pushbutton) to a relay - this relay should power the LP.
The reason is that the VP44 hates high pressure while cranking and with the oil pressure switch you can eliminate the problem. The bypass pushbutton comes in very handy for fuel filter changes. (Wrench on the filter outlet plug and finger on the button makes for an almost dripless air bleeding )

Sounds to me like your lift pump is failing. What is your fuel pressure? My crystal ball says a vp44 is in your future.

the vp44 is almost new, my fuel pressure is about 16psi at idle and when the lift pump is running its 8psi WOT, cruising with no load its around 12psi with my juice set on #4. the reason i want to bypass the ecm is roughly every 30 miles i will loose fuel pressure 1-2psi and have to shut the ignition off and turn it back on to get pressure back.

the oil pressure switch is a good idea aswell

I'm getting the same thing and I just blast the throttle for a second and fp comes back up. It always comes back up with startup too. Must be the lp
