Buzzing noise left side of dash

He ya'll, was wondering if any of you have had this happen. I have a buzzing noise left side of dash. Sounds like it is near the headlight switch. It happens mostly when I am at around 35 mph and again at around 55 mph. I can manipulate it by turning tow/haul mode on and off (gets louder with it on). Also can feel a slight vibration in shift lever when it happens. Dealer said that they cant duplicate it. But after a ride with me and the tech they all of the sudden heard it. They said that they replaced a relay but when I went to a buddy of mine who works for a jeep dealer, he pulled the warranty report on my truck and it showed the dealer replacing the cluster. The noise kind of sounds like a stepper motor but I just can't seem to put my finger on it.

HELP!! LOL!!

Right now I just turn up the radio and drown out the noise..

i had a noise kind of like that, it almost sounded like a cell phone on vibrate ringing. turns out it was the a-piller plastic. when i put my new a-piller on with gauges it went away. looked at the old one and one of the clips was bent over. might check there.

My A-pillar trim does that occasionally. Nothing like driving around with your hand on trim trying to locate and stop noise.

Mine happens when the tranny shifts into OD and the exhaust drones. I've heard that there is a problem with the a/c vents coming loose?? Don't have time to take it to the dealer!!

cbrahs,
I have the same exact problem with my truck, it goes in on Monday. I checked the front dash area, its not the plastic or vents, I know at least in my truck. I have this buzzing noise when the gets above 20 mph and get's considerably worse as I increased the speed, it would be horrendous at 80 mph. The noise also gets real annoying while driving aggressively. Here is what I notice it is either the tach or speedo, and you were right I personally think its the stepper motor in the cluster. I will keep you posted on the results after the dealer looks at it Monday.

I am really interested what you find out. What drives me nuts is that I can make it louder when I kick the tow/haul mode on. Will be watching what they find out.

Well today my truck was finished and after the dealer finished they said they could not duplicate the sound either, so I took the tech on a nice aggressive ride, nothing happened. I told the tech that it starts happening on a long haul or ride he said if it happens while out on the road take it as soon as I hear it again. Well paid for my tranny change and headed home, while driving home a strong rain cell hit so I turned on the lights and proceeded to my office. Well half way there low and behold the darn thing starts rattling. So I turn around drive back to Fairbanks dodge and left the thing running until the tech meandered his way back to me. He said to take him again on a road test, after ½ block he asked if he could drive, I told him have had it and so we go about 3 miles, he shook his head and said it was definitely coming from the tach area.
He ordered a new cluster and after grilling him he said that there was no stepper motor any more the system runs from the throttle positioner and the tach is controlled by an resistor and there must be something in the cluster when it starts to get warm is causing this anomaly.
So as soon as the cluster is in they will put the new one in.

I had this same noise coming from the dash in my 2006. It wouldn't start making the noise until the temperature in the cab warmed up. After months of trying to find it I pulled the dash panel along the windshield multiple time looking for a loose clip or any sign of rubbing. Then I saw it. A sticker with the part number on the bottom of the dash cowl that was peeling off. When the dash plastic would flex the peeled of portion of the sticker would rub making the noise. Haven't had the noise since.

That is what they "said" they replaced on mine but I have a very strong feeling they didn't. They did not have the truck long enough to do so (only had it a day and I know they don't keep them in stock!). They said that they ordered a relay but then I got a story that they could not duplicate it. I said, hop in and lets go. Got about 1/2 block away and TADAAA there it was, he was like OH! . I have not had it back because it is my only driver.

Let us know what they find. I want mine FIXED!!

THANK YOU!!

Service Manager said it was a special order part, told I was not in a real hurry to send it regular ground instread of overnighting it. They did take pictures, I asked why and they said it was a trim item possible and under new DC rules they need to take pictures of all "trim" because there are way to many claims from people damaging there trim and trying to get them to pay.

I will keep you posted.

cbrahs, you wanted an update, I just got a call from the dealer and they said that the part is in and they need my truck on this coming Monday. I ask my service manager why it took 2 months, her reply was that DC will repair one cluster and take another core from yours for the next damaged one. She said they do it to all clusters and radios, so basically I have a refurbished part... not to happy about that, probably end up with someone elses junk! I will let you now next week, or the following week, as they do not know they will be doing the TSB on the shutter during takeoff, so getting back may be a few extra days.
