"Burping the ISB"

Something that I have been wondering about for quite some time

I beleive some engine cooling systems can become air locked after replacing the thermostat and refilling with coolant and I have heard of people prying open the thermostat a bit and inserting an asperin before installation to allow coolant to fill the area above the thermostat I presume and prevent this problem. I beleive that this proceedure is refered to as "Burping the engine". I'm thinking that being that I have never seen a post regarding this problem on this board that the ISB must be immune to it?

Thanks in advance for any clarification

John

I haven't had to do mine yet but the aspirin trick does work on other rigs.
Drilling a small hole works too.

Someone can correct me on this, but the Cummins have a "jiggle" pin that allows this trapped air to escape.

I have replaced or have had my thermostat out for whatever reason and have never had a trapped air problem, just refill what was drained and go.

I just replaced radiator on mine, I refilled it and have no problem. Temp marks fine and motor is just right.

These motors are Cummins guys, there's a reason why they are famous for being good.
These are no LLYs, LBZs or Powerjokes, our motors are studied to have industrial usage, not just in a pickup. Have you seen a Duramax in a powerplant generator ? Or in an escavator ?

Guess what...you ain't !!!!!!!
