Burnt Oil Smell Through Dash Vents After Oil Change

I have a 2005 Cummins Dodge Ram. I just had a dealer oil change last week.

This is my second oil change at the dealer since buying my truck back in August 05.

I noticed while driving down the road, that when I usually have my ventilation system set to the dash vents, and set for just blowing in outside air at outside air temperature, I smell a burnt oil smell.

I figured that some oil got dripped on a part of the engine that gets pretty hot......like the exhaust manifold, or exhaust pipe....etc.

I can't see any drips anywhere. It's been a week since the oil change, and I still smell this smell after the engine is warmed up.

There's no drips on my driveway either. Oil level on the dipstick looks fine too. It's not overfilled according to the dipstick.

I understand that it doesn't take much spilled oil to make a burnt smell. Is this just something that needs to gradually burn-off from somewhere where I can see.

I crawled under the rig trying to find a oily spot but can't see anything.

I notice that the smell is strongest in the dash vents when I come to a stop and am at idle..i.e. a stop light.......etc.
........
Where does outside air get picked up from?

Is your dealer by chance using Shell Rotella? There's a reason its nickname is "Rosmella" - it has a, ummmm, unique fragrance for the first 500 miles or so after an oil change.

On your 2005 the crank case vent is open and vents into the outside air below your truck. This is typically normal for the first few hundered miles after an oil change but just to be safe, be sure and check the oil level and if the dealer over filled, let some out until the proper level is reached.

That is normal. I use Rotella, and it happens everytime.
