Burning rubber/plastic smell from truck.

Burning rubber/plastic smell from truck.
Hello. this has been an ongoing problem since I bought the truck. it now has 12,000 KM on it. for the first 8000 km the dealership's ( 3 different ones) kept saying the problem smell was from the undercoating... this truck sees mostly highway kilometers... after 8000km one of the mech's actually looked further into it and found the seal was leaking into the brakes and thats where the smell was coming from.. that was 4000km ago.
Just had the truck back at the dealership and informed them with a lot of city driving ( stop and go) when the brakes get warmed up it smells.. unfortunately the smell dissipates within couple of minutes. The dealership took the truck out on the highway for a 70km test run but couldn't reproduce the smell. less than a month from now we are hooking up our 5'th wheel trailer and going camping all over throughout the summer... any suggestions on what this could be? possibly EGR/DPF smell? or something I could point the mechanic too?? before I grab one and tie him under the truck till it's reproduced?

its your DPF thats making that smell, regen mode in process. it will stop smelling soon, Just needs to go through a full regens a few times. I have 74000.0 miles now and i haven't had that smell in months.

Agreed. I think the last Regen something must have been on the pipe because it smelled like hot metal and something synthetic burning. Went away after the regen was over.
