Hi, I have a 200 gal tank of heating oil in my basement. It is at best two years old, maybe 4 years old. Not sure, it was filled and then the house converted to electric heat before I moved in. I currently have a hand pump with two 10 micron filters inline on it. One is a Goldenrod water block, the other a Wix. I think I will try some blending with fresh pump diesel and some filtered WMO. What do you guys think? Anyone ever use old fuel? Can't really find much on using old fuel. Thanks.

It should run just fine I ran a couple hundred gallons through mine with no ill effects. Keep in mind it is most probably dyed red, and if you get checked depending on where you are checked it could cost you $1000, or more. You're filtering sounds fine. You might consider adding some outboard motor oil to increase lubrication. Mike

Just yankin ya, burn it at will, if it is #2, run it straight. Make sure you are aware road tax has not been paid, and act accordingly.

Thanks guys. I thought it would be alright. I'll definitely blend it in low amounts and increase it as I go. I'll dose it with filtered WMO or two stroke for lubricity. Let you guys know if I have any problems.

My boss had 5 oil tanks in his basement, all had 1/4 tank or less. One horrible Saturday we ripped out all the tanks, boilers, water heaters etc. to convert to natural gas (and condos) and he ran all that fuel in the trucks for weeks, talk about ballsy. I even filled my truck up, wasn't filtered past the filter on the tanks and ran fine. Fuel was roughly one year old.

Just an update: I filtered a few tanks worth out, cut it one ounce of WMO per gallon of fuel oil. Truck ran like a top.
