Bump Steer

I have read a few steering post that talk about "Bump Steer". What actually is this, and is it also related to the track bar?

AHH Yes, now we're into racing terms. Bump steer is the change in steering specs due to a change in chassis ride height. this can occur from going over a bump, the front end lift from accelerating, the front end dive from braking, and the sway from turning. If you set your steering specs, then jack up the truck by the frame, the specs will change. Thats bump steer.
The track bar centers the front axle, so a change in ride height, ie; a lift kit, will change the angle of the track bar, and therefore the location of the front axle.
This will affect the toe-in and steering wheel centering also, although possibly not enough to notice.

Adjustable Track Bars

Adjustable Track Bars are available from several suppliers to allow for centering the front suspension after a lift or lowering kit. If you're running stock ride height it shouldn't be an issue.

on both of my trucks with 6" lifts we have some minor bump steer with the 03 trac bar conversion and adjustable trac bar. Its not very noticebale though and you have to hit a good size bump and speed for it to happen. with the 2" lift and 03 conversin and stock 03 trac bar i never had bump steer.
