I'm going to order the Bully Dog fuel pin as it is on sale at Jegs. Has anyone ordered this pin from here? Is everything included that I need for install, spring etc? Or do I need to order something else too? Also, as a sidenote...does anyone have first hand experience on the differences between bullydogs and the original ol smokey that Diesel Performance sells?

No experience, but I saw a pic when Bully Dog first came out with them, and they look awfully similar to the Old Smoky Pin. I called to ask about it, and got put on hold. I hung up ater 3-4minutes.

I have a Bully Dog fuel pin. It comes with everything needed. I have not seen the ol smokey so not sure as to the differences. Mine works really well. Be prepared for a lot of smoke and EGT's using stock turbo how ever. I raised aprox 200-300 deg and lots of smoke before changing turbo.

cootz, if i've read and followed along correctly i believe that "ol smokey" a member of this and other forums spent all the time to reasearch and develop the fuel pin. shortly after that (from what i understand) bully dog came out with an amazingly similar product. if the prices are anywhere close i would probably purchase mine from the person who spent the time and cared about our trucks when no one else did. i would assume that you will get similar if not the exact same perf. from either pin. other please chime in if i am wrong!

I would agree. Buying the pin from the original maker was going to be my intent. But for all intensive purposes, how can one opt out of a 37% price difference? $124 vs $199. If all things being the same, the choice is trivial.

The Bully Dog pin is an exact copy of Old Smokys pin. I bought my pin from Mike because he did all the R&D on the pin and I felt like I should support the guy that did the work.

I had ground my stock pin to a similar profile to the Old Smoky pin (actually more like the Diesel Dynamics pin, but deeper than theirs), but still had the stock spring. I swapped pins & springs with a guy from StLouis for a quick test run and the bottom end smoke was about the same for me, but boost came on quicker, and it pulled harder. Would have been nice to see the runs back to back on a dyno.

cootz, kinda why i haven't bought one... i figured the original would be more coming from a smaller company. at the same time i don't want to support someone that just ripped off someone else's work. i'm sure i've bought other products that have been ripped off like that in my lifetime, but since i actually know about it this time i have a hard time even though it's less. i will eventually get one i am sure, and to tell you the truth it probably won't be till i find a used one since i can't decide if i really think it's a moral issue or not, lol.

It's just the principal nothing else. I paid 205 for the real deal. Even if it was cheaper it's still a copy. Thats why I go to work every day.

It's conflicting for me, though. I'd really like to buy the original, but it's hard to ignore a $50+ price difference, especially for something that probably costs under $40 in manufacturing.

On one hand is the sympathy and respect I feel for the guys who took the time to bring the thing to the market, on the other I wonder why they can't be competitive in pricing or if they botched the patent process. (Altough I can imagine that patent's involving something like that would be extremely hard to enforce. From my experiences, the big guys don't fear stealing from small timers because the big guys have much better lawyers and can afford their day in court.)

I'd personally like to know the whole story rather than have to extrapolate...

Old Smokey doesn't make the pins anymore right? So does Dyno get the profits or is a portion going to Ol Smokey?

I bought the "Old Smokey" about 3 years ago. At that time that was all I could find. I have heard that it is not available any more, but I dont know for sure.
When I installed it I gained about 3 PSI boost and could feel the power difference. They claimed 28 HP over a stock min at max setting.
We are all consumers, we want the best bang for the buck.
I would support the man who built it and did, I just dont know where to buy one anymore and How much can we get it for. I guess its a personal decision.
