Per my previous post that you replyed to, I would upgrade to something with a locking TC. I put a Goerend in my 93 which helped, put it still slips quite a bit. When I pull a hill with my trailer on, 1/4 of the way up the hill i start losing speed, I stand on it, the tach pegs out, but the speedometer falls right on its face. Like I said the TC from Goerend helped it alot, but still dont pull like it should.

I talked to Dave Goerend about the same thing about a year ago and what he said to me made me feel like I should have gone with a lock up. Are you planning on keeping the truck? I'd do what your feeling deep down. Spend the money one time. The last thing you want to do is look back and say I wish I would of.....

Well, its what your budget can afford you. 2 of the things you say you do with the truck, indicate a leaning towards a lockup TC setup, thus the 47RH.
Additionally, its what parts you already have, and can find reasonable. I think most find, if given the option, they'd go lockup everytime. Even with what some call a good aftermarket TC, there's no mistaking that lockup feeling, especially while towing or at the track, it makes that much difference.

Never drove a built 518, but my slipping like a son of a gun 47rh is way more fun to drive than my stock non od in my dump truck.. So, take it from someone who has done the conversion and it was fairly easy and well worth it.

is it necessary for what your going to be doing? probably not, but you will certainly enjoy the extra power that gets put to the ground when the converter locks up. For me there was no comparison between the 518 (when in decent shape) to my 47rh. I did not need the lock up but i wanted ALL of my power to make it to the ground instead of some of it getting converted to heat though a slipping converter.
