Budget-minded fuel system

My sending unit quit working a couple months ago and I plan to pull the bed to service it. Would like to upgrade everything from the tank to the pump while I'm at it. My goal is 450 hp with an he351vgt, so a stock replacement lift pump and a fuel pressure gauge should be all I need in that department. What should I do for fuel line though? I've heard of a draw straw, if that something I need to look into? I'd just like to have all the parts ready for when I tear the old girl down.

Depending on what's happened, you may get away with just cleaning and re-tensioning the float arm holding the sender contact down. Seems common for them to get a little varnished, lose tension and fail that way. Pretty simple.

And have a look at the pickup tube itself that floats down in the bottom of the basket, as well. The hole in that tube on the 1st gens is waaaaay small, less tha 5/16". BC847 did a magnificent writeup on that a couple years ago. Simply drilling out that little plastic tube a bit and running a 3/8 supply line from there all the way out makes a world of difference.

May be a whole different animal on the 2nd gen tho, dunno.

Yeah, I filed down and cleaned one on my '91 gasser and it worked good. I guess I'll just pull it apart when I'm swapping the 351vgt on and see what's what.
