I recently purchased a Buckstop bumper to replace the factory bumper after an accident. I ordered the bumper before Christmas and was told it would be four weeks, to my surprise I received it in just over two weeks. I install the bumper and everything fit really well, except I was having some trouble with the grill guard and hood clearance when opening the hood. I called Buckstop and spoke with Darien who is the owner, we worked together trying different things but I couldn’t get it to work properly. I had suggested that maybe something had gone wrong with the jig during fabrication and Darien offered to resolve it by sending me a new grill guard. I told him not to bother as I was traveling through Oregon and I could just drop by and pick it up. When I got to Buckstop not only was the new grill guard ready to go but Darien came and met me and personally looked over my bumper. He took some measurements and determined that the bumper just needed to be rolled forward. After the adjustment he installed my original grill guard and everything worked great. If I was better at aligning things I wouldn’t have had this problem.

I have to say it’s not very often that you see customer service like this. I am very impressed with the quality of workmanship of Backstop’s bumper. I highly suggest purchasing their bumper if you’re in the market.

I have had great luck with Darien as well with my buckstop on my dmax. great bumper and they were great to work with. my brother ended up geting front and rear for his 07 ctd with the 16.5 ti winch. he is happy as well

I had the same issue when I installed mine. Like you, it was just a alignment issue.

I am looking at the Classic but the fact that the grill guard is a bolt-on is very concerning. Can anyone offer any reassurance on this being as strong as a weld-on design?

not sure of your concern here. bolts, welds, if done correct they can both be great or both be bad.

I have had my bumper on for 2-3 years now and have not even thought about the bolts. I kinda like it because if I want to change the look of the truck, I just unbolt it. I even bought mine used, so it is a couple years older than that.

Shipping is prob cheaper with a bolt on design as well. Smaller packaging.

I would not worry too much about the bolt on grill guard. I had a warn bumper on my previous truck which survived a run in with an elk and a Jeep. This had a bolt on grill guard and looked to be a much weaker design than the Buckstop I have now. I also like the ability to take it off if necessary.

Does anyone have a picture of the underneath that shows how this bolt through design works? Seems like enough force would tear those bolts through the bumper base or pull the bolts from the tubes.
