btpassing the vss

i got under my truck and pulled the vss out.. i can spin the needle and there is a bunch ao rattleing, as i spinn the vss needle the other side do not turn . it spun just a second. then stoped,, what i am wondering.. is the wire and square needle that goes in to the vss will bypass it.. as it fits on transfercase just fine.. i hooked it back up to just hold it up out of the way.. was wondering if it would work or mess something up..

Connecting direct will throw off the speed. The little metal transfer case looking box is a gear box with a ratio. Do a search for "vss", there a re a bunch of threads including one in the sticky. I am in the same boat right now x2 trucks. The vss with a 2 wire plug is supposedly easily had at parts stores and is most likely to go bad first unless your square shouldered shaft or receiver is rounded or siezed.
