Broken Van Aaken V5?
I bought the van aaken v5 smartbox off ebay. 200 bucks used. Not a bad deal...if it worked. I just want to make sure i'm not doin something wrong before I throw it back at this guy. I installed it inline with the map sensor and then the diagnostics plug. When I start the truck the check engine light stays on. Ran the code and got a P 1693. When I hit the gas its like a power take off switch. It immediatly shoots the rpms up to about 1500 and stays there no matter how much I press the pedal. There is no in between. Its either 850 or 1500 rpms. I went through and checked all the connections and they are all home and looking fine to me. Is there anything else I should pay attention to? or do I have a messed up box?
Thanks

Do you have the right box? I know mine has part number ending 19982000. It comes w/ instruction for all 2nd gen,98-02. But it's not by the part number. There's enough adapters to make you think it'll fit all years. Something to check. Isn't the P1693 a companion code?

Sounds messed up to me. It's a pretty straight forward install.

I know there is a ton of adapters, isn't that the only difference between the 98-00 and 01-02 models? The dude on ebay had it advertised for a 2001...I think he really had no idea. I'll probably call up Van Aaken and see if they can tell me which one I have and if they are different.

No because they got two part numbers on their website. The part number for 98.5-00 is chr-sbxv519982000. Check out your part number on the box. Definitely call them if you don't have that.
The instructions got me thinking that it would work for 01-02. I had to double check because someone ask about mine.

edit: I guess I should post other pn:CHR-SBXV520012002.

I'm gonna hook it up again tonight and check the connections for the third time. I'm not using any adapters and it plugs right in. The 98-00 trucks have different plugs so i'm thinking that I have the right one for the truck. I'll let ya know what V.A. says when I get around to calling them.
