Broke Sumthin'
I was backing my 5er up over a curb, back tires on gravel w/ no grip, engage 4H, push her back and hear a bad sound from the front end. I finished the maneuver, and called it a day. Driving to.from work today hear a "tick, tick, tick" from front end. After educated inspection from all the knowledge here, I discovered . . . . .
I broke something. I think like every other fella here and when something breaks it is an opportunity to upgrade. What broke and what to replace with? (Hope the pic attaches) Front drivers side wheel turned right.

It's a "stub axle to inner axle" u-joint. Common item to break when doing some hardcore offroading. Either replace with a good Spicer or if you want real toughness and rebuildability, replace both sides with a CTM u-joint. Here's the link for what you need: http://www.ctmracing.com/storefront/...7&categoryid=2
But I do believe (not sure tho) that in order to use the CTM, you'll have to do some grinding on the axle shafts.

Should I be hunting for replacements in the boneyard?
No, go to a good auto parts store and get two, heavy duty, greasable u-joints for the front axle.
If I replace one side, do I need to do the other?
I would as dry as the one that broke is, the other side is not far behind.

You can replace only one side, but as OPPS stated above, both may be better. But you seriously need to get a NEW one; it's just a U-joint after all. Go to Napa or someplace similar for a Spicer. JMO
