Broke my odometer....

Hi, guys. Took a long trip in my '90 W350 and after a fillup decided to double check mileage. Pushed in the trip meter button on the gauge face, trip meter zeroed as it should, but then couldn't get trip or odometer to work after that! Tried to pull it out, wiggle, twist etc. but nuthin'.

Anybody know what it takes to fix, or if separate parts are available? It's a low mileage truck that I'm selling in a week or two and I really don't need this silly hassle

i've fixed several... first of all try pushing the button while you are moving, one of my trucks is wired like that. if that doesn't work there are two small gears inside that get brittle and teeth brake off. you can buy them (for like $32 a piece) and i will get you the website if you want.

Thanks! I tried all the pushing, pulling, and everything I could think but nothng worked. Looks like I may have to go for the gears, even at $32 per each! Figures it's worked fine for 16 years, until the week before I want to sell it....

Yes, I could use tht website link, thanks!

I got the same problem. Never have tried to fix it. Speedo is new paperweight on desk (waiting for complete cluster replacement) right now. I dont see how one can get to those gears, as I tried taking the thing apart. Is there some way to pull off the needle?

Yes there is a way to pull the needle off. It literally just pulls straight off BUT you have to be very careful when doing it because it is very easy to break the needle. Its best to use something like two spoons for example and slowly rock it up each side together with the spoons.

no nukleus!!!!! don't try it you do NOT need to remove the needle to fix the odometer problem!!

http://www.carradio.com/gears.html

call and tell them what you drive they will know which two you need. if you are selling you may be better off to pull it apart first, i ordered 2 of each and only ended up needing 3 of them. the larger of the two you have to actually have to brake apart to get off. i have a spare gauge, i'll do a write up and maybe make it into a sticky!

Thanks!

I did hear a 'crunch/snap' when I pressed in to clear readings, sorta like plastic grenading.....
