Brighter Backup Lights for FREE

The stock 3157 back up bulbs have 2 filaments, a major and a minor. The plug that the bulb fits into only makes contact with the leads for the major filament, which are the outermost ones. The leads for the minor filament are inboard and on the opposite face of the bulb from the major. If you bend the minor (inboard) leads up and over onto the same side as the major (outboard) leads, both filaments will light and give more light.

I used an o-ring pick to lift the leads off the base, bent them over and pliers to kinda press them back flat onto the base.

The difference is noticeable but not extravagant. Just another way to get the most out of what you already have.

Wink EEK! another college station fella! so is BEGLE1....

this doesn't explode or anything.... BEGLE1 did not put you up to this, right??!!

I switched the 3157 for my cargo light, needed the thing a bit brighter but low profile. really Liked the 20 dollar hitch receiver light use too! comes on with reverse or single light for working/ hooking up . durable too don't ask....

I changed around the contacts on the 3157 and it is a little bit brighter, but not much.
