Okay, I've been dreaming of the day I finally own a Cummins and that day may be soon.

I've found a brand new 05 1 ton quad cab long box 4x4 on singles in Alberta with a 6 speed, a hard beast to find these days it seems, new or used, exactly what I'm looking for other than thew colour, white!
Anyhow, my question is if I fly out and drive it home, is there anything in particualr I should do or NOT do getting it back to the coast? (Live near Vancouver BC)
I imagine a fuel supplement is important the first few tanks?

Also, my plans are for some sort of chip before too long, what do you recomend, something that will give more torque for towing without going to crazy and giving better mileage, but maybe something I can crank up later?
What do these do to the warrany and is the factory 4" exhaust okay for now? Gauges will be next.

These Cummins' are tough engines. Drive it like you stole it for breakin!

Worst thing to do during breakin is maintain same RPM for miles on end.

Don't tow heavy for the first 500 miles, so that the ring/pinion in the AAM axles will breakin.

Fuel supplement is advised for ALL tanks of fuel. The new 'dry' diesel fuel soon to hit the pumps is questionable on lubricity at this time.

Don’t idle for more than a minute or you may glaze the cylinder walls. You want the rings to seat ASAP.

I agree drive it like you stole it. Don't baby it. The most important thing tho is make sure the engine is up to operating temps first and let everything cool down before you shut it off after a hevy run.

The hardest part will be varying your engine speed between Calgary and Banff. (Then again, you'll probably be ear to ear and romping it up and down!) As for boxes, I've got the Quadzilla Race on mine which is adjustable and as you cruise the forums you'll find lots of info on all kinds. Quad has a great rep for super service! Truth be told I don't think that any of us NEED the box but they sure are fun!

As for Canadians ... we're all over the place! Slowly taking over the states without them knowing it

By the way, welcome aboard the DTR where you can share that silly grin you're gonna have on your face while drivin' the new truck without being laughed at cuz we've all been there!

Yah, not keeping a steady speed on the Alberta highways might be a little tough alright.
The truck's a GO!
Go out on the 7th to pick it up, will combine it with a visit to a friend in Edmonton.

I have many questions, will be looking for feedback on plastic box liner vs. spray in, what to do about the wimpy looking tires they come with. Saw an 03 today had 315 TA's on it, said they rub when he cranks it, but the levelling kit should prevent that ...?

How are B&D products received on here? I went to one of their dyno days a few years ago, some impressive machines out there, the guys doing burn outs in a parking lot was pretty cool.

What kinda fuel additive should I get, add it to every tank?

THis seems like the place to learn everything I need, will be spending more time here the next little while than my usual fishing forum!

Wow.Follow the owners manual on break in.Its there for a reason.A "Box" and "bigger tires/Leveling kit" so hello to the chance of a voided warranty and say hello to maybe "Death Wobble here I come" .Try driving and enjoying it for a while as "is" and READ about boxes,leveling kits and bigger tires.I've read enough over time to avoid such or be prepaired to be I AM MY OWN WARRANTY STATION.Just a little differant advise.

Houndog, I won't have my hands on the owner's manual till it's time to drive it home, jast asking for advice on here.

I' am gonna hold off on the chip and levelling kit, but am seriosly looking at getting rid of the wimpy 265 all seasons and getting 285 AT KO's or something right away. (Is there a way to correct the speedo for bigger tires?)

Been reading the DW thread, seems to me the wobble is not something you only get with a lift...

Will also be looking at pillar gauges very soon, like to keep an eye on things.

Bigger tires and lift.Some post with JUST bigger tires.Been followin these threads on several forums a LONG time.Very few posts about STOCK DW.Like I said just some DIFFERANT advise.

I have a 05 that I put 285s on the speedometer is only off about 1MPH the only way that a dealer can void your warranty is if they can prove that the add on directly caused the failure in that part.There is another thread that points the exact law that protects this.Most service writers are pretty loyal to their regular customers so you should probably ask his opinion on anything you do just to make sure that your warranty stays in tact.
