Question brake pedal won't return

01 Ram 3500 with HydroBoost. Just replaced boost unit and master cylinder. Brakes work fine, pedal releases with no problem, just won't come back up. Stops short about 1 1/2-2 inches and will gradually (after about 15 seconds) return enough to turn out the tail lights. Checked return line from boost unit to power steering pump, no clogs. Do not have any problems with the power steering pump that I can tell.

sure sounds like low power steering flow to me. There is a plug on the fender side of the pump you can remove and there is a filter screen under it. Sometimes it clogs up and restricts flow. Check it out.

Maybe you got a bad hydroboost out of the box?

Hmm.... I'm having this same problem now also.
Truck brakes alright, it just takes the pedal 20 sec. to return to where it needs to be. Anybody else have the same problem and know what I should look at first.

I have been hearing alot of this lately. My friend had his brakes lock up when his hydrabooster went bad, he replaced it with a Advanced Auto unit. Then his pedal wouldn't return correctly as you guys have mentioned. The unit was leaking internally right out the box. Another friend had the "not returning" issue & he had a leaky brake cylinder on the rear. Another friend just replaced his hydrabooster last week, the new one did the same thing. He brought the truck to my garage & we bled the system by Jacking the back of the truck high in the air & cracking the bleeders on the back end. We went in the house for 30min, come back out & bled the brakes like crazy. He finally had good pedal when he left. I think they just get airlocked when you replace the hydrbooster & cause the issue.

i've been having this problem too. i just replaced my booster with an advanced rebuild. the brakes work great but the pedal takes a while to come back up. is it a crappy booster or is there still air in the system somewhere?
thanks

I'm betting you have air like my friend did.

How can I determine or eliminate the brake booster as the problem ?

i'm thinkin there's air in my booster somewhere. it is the highest point in the hydro system. i really don't see where they expect any trapped air to go. hopefully it will work itself out soon. bet yours is the same if you just replaced your booster too. otherwise, if bleeding the brakes well doesn't work, i'd start there.
