Brake Light Switch

I just got the best news I ever could have heard. The transmission in my truck is fine, IT'S THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH!

Anyway, I know I need to adjust the switch but I forget which way. Do I move the switch towards the pedal (ie towards the front of the truck) OR do I move the switch away from the pedal (ie towards the back of the truck)?

The barrel of the switch is what adjusts, not the position of the entire unit. All you have to do is step on the brakes to adjust it.

Infidel, the way you stated that, it sounds like you're saying the switch is self adjusting. If this is the case, then the switch in my truck needs to be replaced. From what I have been told there are some switches that have an adjustment nut/screw on the barrel of the switch and there are some that don't have the adjustment. A friend told me that if it didnt have the adjustment to bend the bracket. As far as I can tell my truck doesnt have the adjustment...

to adjust, get down by the brake pedal, depress the brake pedal and pull the plunger/barrel out gently a couple of clicks (towards the front of the truck). I've had to adjust mine twice in the last 3 years and it still works fine after the adjustment. Have not had to purchase a new one yet.
