? bout VP44 and fuel pressure

I'm getting ready to replace my vp.

I have noticed in the last two weeks that I'm starting to blow more black smoke in stock mode. Might there be a reason for that?

I have also noted that on my Att. monitor. That my fuel pressure will vary from 14-12 or 15-13 psi. I tend to run down the road with 11 psi. This is all on a new lift stock lift pump. Is this normal?

I'm replaceing my vp because of dead pedal and my engine will slightly cut out while pulling the fifth wheel. If I put it in level 1 or 2 I will get bad dead pedal. But barely notice it on stock. (this is with the fifth wheel on.)

Also the other day, taken off in 1st gear. I got white smoke and the engine miss fired.

I went on a little more than I planned for this topic. But just wondering what others thought.

Warmer air means less oxygen in the air = more black smoke when warmer.

Fuel pressure readings are normal.

It must be bad to live in AZ then. How do people breathe there in the summer if there's less oxygen in the air?

So, is the lift pump the same as the injector pump?? I have a 2000 model 1 ton and I am thinking mine is going bad. I get slow take-off and it just doesn't seem like its got very much power.

Thanks,

Thanks,
No they are not the same thing and they sure are not the same $$$$$.
First and most important mod is a fuel pressure guage.

Don't forget to check for trouble codes. Maybe it is something simple and much cheaper than the VP44, like a MAP sensor. Check for codes and then see what needs fixing. If there aren't any codes, we arm-chair types may start throwing out theories, but we do so with all best intentions. Good luck with the truck, and keep us informed!!
