I took the electronics off a VP-44 pump that I knew was bad and swapped it with one I knew was good but the pump was bad. I just sent it in to have it checked out before I installed it and much to my surprise I was told that the modules on the pump are designed to know when it was tampered with and stop working. The wires are also designed to internally break when they are moved.

Could anyone shed some light in this subject? Could Bosch do this? If so, isn’t that illegal to design something to break like that? After-all once a person buys something it is their property and the owner should be able to do with it what they feel like!

I doubt that. Some guy in one of my classes told me that at 100,000 miles the injection pumps are programmed to fail. 100,700 and still counting on the original, wire tapped injection pump.

If that was the case everyone who tapped the fuel wire would ruin their pump and it would be a well known fact by now. I don't think you can swap electronics between pumps without re-keying it, that's probably why yours didn't work.

Bosch makes the pumps for Cats too. A couple of different engineers I know who have been to Cat school all say"those things are bad news". Too manyy tiny parts and wires. even after being in the classes and getting certified they won't touch one of those pumps. Never heard that they were designed tamper proof, but I have heard that they were designed by the devil himself.

I originally asked the question because I knew the electronics that I installed was good and now test’s bad. The shop that tested the pump was the one that told me that the thin flat wiring strap coming from the module and going to the magnetic pickup internally in the pump was design to internally break when handled. They told me that it bakes itself brittle. When i took it off, I did not find it hard to the touch.

He did tell me that the pump itself mechanically was in excellent condition. So I had them install a new electronic module. I still have the other pump wish I am going to finish an autopsy to find out what actually failed. When I do I will post my findings.
