is this a boost leak? if so, i cant find it

first off, i want to make sure that this is a boost leak, as i assume it is. it sounds like a whirrrring sound as the boost rises. it only begins under harder throttle with higher boost. i dont know exactly when it comes in since i dont have the gauge on yet. i have tightened and tightened and tighted those boots so much that they really wont go any more. each time, the leak sounds less and less but its there when i punch it. all the boots feel good and soft, no visible cracks or anything abnormal. anything else i should try? this is defferent from the turbo noise, and i have the silencer ring removed. this noise has been present since i bought the truck two months ago, and the silencer ring was still in. air filter is new. this noise certainly cant be normal.

thanks,

jeremy

Basically go to the harware store and start with a I think a 4" inch clamping rubber gasket that will be used to clamp on to the intake of the turbo, and then find a similar size plastic fitting that can be reduced and simply reduce it to an air compressor fitting clamp it on TIGHT and block it with wood to prevent it from blowing off, then bring up the pressure to at first maybe 10-15 psi and spray down the intake system with soapy water. Sometimes leaks won't show at a low pressure but the big ones usually will. Just remember be careful and I even throw a set of coveralls over the pressure fitting just incase it blows, which has happened to me several times trying to get up in the high 30's low 40's for pressure.

I think there was a picture of someones setup way back you may be able to do a search on it.

I get a whirring, wissle type sound too at heavyer throttle and load. I read many post about people talking about it. It does sound like maybe a turbo air leak .

I just tightened my boot clamps also . Could this noise be something else? Maybe the VP44 injector pump?

GSP I would say what you hear is simply the turbo doing its job

i noticed today after i took off from letting it sit (turned off) for about 10 minutes, the noise was intermittent (spelling?), but it sounded kind of like a belt squealing - but i know thats not it. then after a minute of driving the same old sound was back. this noise has me stumped as im so new to diesels tech.

There isn't sound while at idle, no boost at idle, at least mine wasn't. It was under load at medium throtle. A simple air filter fixed mine after tightning all intercoller brackets. But now I feel the torque converter going south.

my filter is new. i guess i should check the belt, but it does not sound like a belt. it seems to follow boost - rpms drop after shifting, and boost is still up, the noise is still as loud as it was when the rpms were higher. i will be checking it tho. any more input?
