Boost Fooling An 02

I've had my truck two months now, taken the SR out, made a BHAF intake and I'm still looking for less expensive ways to get better performance.

Boost fooling looks like a cheaper way to gain boost.

At what boost should I start thinking about studs?

Does the turbo spool better using boost fooling?

Would I stand to gain much without adding a fuel box?

Every other mod appears to improve milage does boost fooling help there also?

Thanks

WELCOME TO DTR, One of the best bang for the buck, would be a used edge ez = 65 hp for $200-$250 in the classifieds here. no need to think about stud till your in it around 3-4k or more.

BTW. you need a fuel pressure gauge on your truck, to be sure your lift pumps working, it could save you an 1200 buck injector pump

there are two things you NEED to increase boost on your truck:

first, mechanical method of blocking the wastegate from opening at the stock pressure. 6spd truck can use a boost elbow

second, electronic method of fooling the ECM. Smarty and most all fueling boxes do this.

Boost fooling is an electronic means of 'tricking' the ECM into seeing less than the stock allowable boost levels. This has to be accomplished via some sort of electronic device.

Boost fooling alone will do very little by itself without making adjustments to the turbo's wastegate.... accomplished by either a boost elbow(HX-35) or j-hook(HY-35)... both allowing the turbo to wastegate at higher pressures.

What is really needed to increase boost levels is increased fuel combined with boost fooling(so the ECM doesn't defuel) and wastegate mods(so you can create more usable boost).

The stock headbolts and gasket should hold up to anything you can throw at it with the stock turbo(within reason).... I think 45psi is generally accepted as being on the edge of the danger zone. There are other factors involved...

I've seen stand alone devices that come with an adjustable boost elbow, I'd post a link to one for an 02 but I'm not sure that's kosher here.

I was thinking about trying RV275s with a stand alone boost fooling device like this http://store.dieseltruckresource.com/qubofo.html but obviously for an 02.

They make them but you'll see minimal gain without adding more fuel to the mix.

You're on the money with adding injectors to a boost fooling device and boost elbow. You may want to upsize those injectors...
