Bombing a 93 CTD auto

Alright friend of mine wants to pull a fifthwheel around the country for his retirement, loves his truck.
He has a 93 2wd dually with a built aftermarket tranny but now he wants more HP Lots more power that he can use so here we go.

$400 The Lucas Pod injectors
Injector pump adjustments or does he to look to a HP version?
Govenor springs 3000 rpm
$450-to mod his w/16 cm housing married to a rebuilt hybrid turbo
3" straight or 4" muffled exhaust?
K&N

He already has gauges

So can he keep it cool with the hybrid or will he have to look to an HX40, will this work for him, will it run like a banshee, he wants to shoot for good numbers 700-800 ft/lbs? I have yet to play with an early motor aside from adjusting the screws so you all tell me how to build this up for a 65 year man who wants to lay down patches

I'd suggest smaller injectors, the POD's need a lot of air to keep them cool when working the truck and they are too smoky for many people. Tweaking the pump is fine, no need to buy a special pump right off the bat. I'd go with the larger exhaust with a muffler, this is a long haul truck that will be working hard, no sense in making the old guy deafer. If I've talked you out of the POD's, then just a 16 cm housing ought to be adequate for the turbo. The 3200 RPM governor spring is a good addition, too. I do not like oiled cotton filters of any brand if a large enough paper filter is available. For this level of performance, a BHAF should be enough.

I'd suggest calling PDR and telling them what the truck will be expected to do.

With the latest price jump, the POD's would probably be cheaper and give you a nice down payment on an HX-35. With the POD's, you can always de-tune the pump to minimize smoke, and still come out ahead on power.

at $800 for the 190 injectors, i think we'll have to look at the PODs for 400 and de tune the injector pump to clean her up. What about timing is there a benefit with these to bumping the timing like there is on our gen 2 motors if so what would be a good advanced timing setting 2 or 3 deg past stock?

Thanks guys this info is helpful

The quick and dirty timing setting is 1/8" advanced from stock. In the 1st gens you just rotate the whole pump, much easier than the 2nd gen setup. So if it sounds like a 6.5 liter GM you know you went too far, but it's no big deal to back it down a touch. The problem people have with the POD's is haze at idle. They have 4 big holes so they don't atomize the fuel very well. If this isn't a problem, go for it! They are the most bang for the buck.
