Bombed Continued....... Pics

For those of you who caught my post a few weeks ago about my motor troubles. It turned out to be what he called a "cracked ring". I call it a meltdown. The pictures arent that great but you get the idea. It looks like a skilled welder took a torch to the ring. And at each oil journal there is a melted spot that was starting its way through the ring. He also informed me that my pyro was 150-200+ degrees off. All is well now except i have a minor valve cover oil leak, which i will have him fix on monday. For all the guys who are running big power boxes/dl's you should really think twice about running the hot settings without supporting mods. This could happen but much much sooner. I dont consider my damages to be that bad considering the fact that i have a great package of huge hp mods that logged me over 70k miles. Oh, and as soon as i get 2-3k miles logged i will have it all put back on..........

ouch on the slugs. glad you're back running.

i sometimes wonder about my pyro. i need to find someone local who has an extra that i can try out for testing. i had to replace the gauge, and both read the same, but that doesnt mean the thermocouple is accurate.

Did you just do pistons or were you able to bore the cyl's out? Was it Hard starting?

So what do you think the "supporting mods" would have been to help avoid this situation on your pickup?

so whats the verdict on what caused this? your pyro was off? thats what made your pistons get damaged because your egts were hotter than you thought?

I am sort of getting in on this late and never read the original thread but, I would be careful with big injectors. They tend to dribble and puddle and wreak havoc on the pistons. Not just on the Cummins but, also on the Dmax!

I do believe water meth would help. I also believe this could have MAYBE been prevented if my pyro was reading accurately.

How did he go about testing how accurate you pyro was? I often worry about how accurate my autometer gauge is.
