on board air
im going to get an electric compressor, and 2, 2.5 gallon air tanks for my truck. can someone explain how to set this up. i want the compressor to go on with a switch in the cab. and then when the tanks fill to 150 psi, or so, i want it to switch off. then im gunna put a chuck somewhere, where i can just hook a hose to, and fill the tires, and run maybe an impact gun, and then in the futre, i will have rear air bags. im looking for mounting ideas, and some pictures. thanks.

wow, lots of threads on air lately, having a switch in the cab is good, but only as an interupt, the system should run on a relay, fed by a pressure switch. use heavy wire, as these things draw a good amount of power. On my truck, empty fuse location # 37 is keyed on. I feed that lead through a fuse, to a interupt switch in my cab, then from there it goes to the pressure switch.... out of the pressure switch it goes to the trigger lead on the relays...... power from the relays go to the compressors...... big fat ground wire gets it all back to the battery. I just posted pics in another thread, but since the op and a watcher are here, I will post again the compressors mounted in my tool box.As for routing air lines, the compressors feed to a line with two T fittings, one of the T fittings has the pressure switch in it, the other T carries the air to the tank.

you will need a pressure switch, there are a variety of styles. Run power to a 20 amp switch, and then to the pressure switch, which will tell the compressor when to turn off/on. you shouldnt need a relay for this part, just get a fuse inline before the switch. the compressor will need a large fuse or circuit breaker for safety as well.
onboardair.com has lots of cool stuff, and BRad Kildy is a decent guy.
delcity.net has lots of cool electrcal switches, harness, fuse/brekers, etc.
