On Board Air System

Gents,

I just replaced my 7 year old air compressor and this is what I went with:

http://www.amazon.com/Viair-20003-1-...9125598&sr=8-1

It's a Viair 20003 1.5 Gallon Air Source Kit from Hornblasters.com. It's got a Viair 275 150psi compressor, 90-125psi pressure switch, and 1.5 gallon tank all in one. It's $139 from Amazon.com!!!! That's cheaper than the compressor itself, especially when you get the Amazon credit card with it, which gives you $30 off your purchase.

I received it very quickly and they even paid the sales tax (FL)! The pressure switch shorted out for some reason and a quick call to Hornblasters got me a replacement switch within 2 days! Extremely happy with this setup as it's small and puts out the pressure needed for my horns. I've got it hooked up with quick connects so I can add another tank or fill my tires....

watch adding a tank, too big will kill the pump, they are usually sold with the right size tank for the compressor. larger means longer run times= death sooner than you would want.

Yeah, I have a 5 gallon Northern Tool tank with a quick connect stored at 125 psi that I can remove from my box if I need it. Just have the 1.5 gallon attached to the pump now....

Where do you suggest I source a pressure switch for my train horns?
I need something like a 90-125 PSI switch.

Thanks,

Ronnie

jjk, if you plan on filling both those 5 gallon tanks with that one 450c, check with viair on the ability of the pump to fill that much tank, hate to see ya loose a pump trying to do more than intended, my 480 lived three months filling 8.5 gallons before I learned my error and swapped in a pair of 380c's. they are responsible for makin my wabco E2 flat out honkin loud @ 200psi

If you want a good, reliable, pressure switch check out the Square D adjustable pressure switches from Grainger.com or something like that (just search for "pressure switch"). I think Hornblasters has them for sale, too, if you call them. I run 90-125 on a 1.5 gallon tank since I only really need one good honk to get someones attention....
