blue smoke

a friend has an 05 that smokes (blue)only upon cold start-up.
it's worse in high elevations, and it has a miss - rough idle until warmed up.
dealers don't know!
any ideas besides valve guide seals?

what i have found is over night the injector leaks down a little. and the blue smoke is from the unburnt fuel. mine clears up in 10-30sc.

not sure about how to test the valve guides. but if you already know that #1 injector is at 85% I think i would start there.

Check the fuel filter, it may be plugged. A year ago I was having rough starts with blue smoke that would last for a minute or more, but it would go away after it had warmed up. Took it into the dealer twice, told them I believed it was leaking an injector, and so did most people on here. Dealer couldn't find anything wrong either time. I changed the fuel filter and bingo, it fixed it.

he is probably going to have to look into new injectors, could be plugged open or "hanging up". not sure how you would diagnose this properly but if ones already at 85% id start by replacing that one and seeing if it helps or maybe sending them in to get tested and if need be repaired.
suck buts sometimes you have to pony up and just replace the problem thats already known, its the best place to start.especially with 400k on it

I understand, but where is the blue smoke coming from?
an injector?
I've heard of stranger things.
