blown engine what do i do?
Ok so i was driving about 65 miles an hour in my dodge 2004 and i heard a small noise like a belt braking. I pushed in my clutch and the engine died. Had it towed to dealer.
Dealer says it had only 500 psi fuel...they checked and injector number 5 was bad and say that Something is wrong internally with piston number 5.
The truck has a restored salvage title. NO warranty on vehicle.
So do I junk this truck and buy a new one or fix it?
How much could I get for a truck with a restored salvage blow engine truck?
I have no clue where to go with this. Any...and I mean Any thoughts would be great.
I live in Phoenix Arizona.

If you are unable to fix any of this yourself,or have someone who can do it for you.You will be into that truck deep.A salvage title truck usally brings about $2000 less than the same truck with a clean title would bring.Also it is not very desirable.I also would find out more specifically what is exactly wrong with your motor,"blown up" is a very generic term.What is the problem with the #5 hole and why is the fuel pressure at 500.

Wish you were in New york, we could fix that in our shop. Pull the head and see what is the problem. It may not be that bad. If it's only # 5 it could be fixed in the truck if the cylinder doesn't need to be bored.

I was looking at buying a truck last week that had the same problem. #5 piston and hole was bad from an injector going bad. I would agree with the others on digging a little deeper into it. We cut open the oil filter on this one and found a sustantial amount of metal in it. Then removed the head and found the damage was not repairable. I hope that you have better luck!
Ultimately, you need to find out what damge there is and if it is repairable. Then decide if it is worth it to you to sink the money into the vehicle with a salvage title.

I see your in phoenix az. i'm about 110 miles to the north of you. i see good used engines all the time for sell down there 3000 to 6000. if you could find one in that range you could install it for a little more and have a good truck for less than 8,000 dont think your going replace it for that.

I see them on craigs list and every few months i take a drive down buckeye road and hit all the wreacking yards. and far as Honest mechanics i dont thats why i do it all myself. you could call some of them and have them put it out on the hot line. a quick google found these.

I'm not familiar with your area but the above link should give you an idea of cost for a longblock and give you something to compare to if/when you find someone locally to do the work. Labor for R&R and other incidentals such as injectors,hoses,belts coolant, oil etc. will be other factors to consider in addition to the engine that you choose.

How many of us have had a dealer tell us whatever is wrong will cost 8K, 10K or 12K to fix, and then all that was needed is a fuel filter or pump???
Engines? I have 8 new Cummins diesels at my buddy's shop that will sell for $4,000 each. New in the crate. Complete. Ready to run.
If I can find that, you will be able to find an engine too. Be optimistic. Start small and then take it one day at a time.
