Blowing white smoke

I don't know if this is the right forum, because it might be performance accessory related. I've noticed that my truck is blowing white smoke again (similar to when my first VP44 was pooched), but mostly at start up and when cold. Until the truck warms up, it blows white steadily at idle, and then is only apparent when accelerating. My CEL comes on sporadically, and I got the 1693 code again (similar to when my VP44 died as well. I will be checking it later today).
What I am wondering about is whether or not the mods that I have done to the truck would be the cause to blowing white? The truck runs great, but sounds gravelly when cold (a VP related issue?). I don't get it, I just bought the HRVP, so it couldn't be that, could it? I'm very confused...
TIA
Ian

I woulden't worry to much I believe that is just the temp of the burn. I had a 96 powerstoke with injectors and chip some mournings I would start it and it would leave the whole neighborhood under a clould of white smoke. If it runs rough you need to let it warm up longer sometimes if I was in a hurry I woulden't let it warm up enough and it would rattle your teeth loose for about 10 min. It did seem to do this more after the mods but prob just due to more fuel in the engine, try to start the truck with the chip turned down.

But you had a powerstroke, don't they always run rough just kidding...
Chip is always on 1x5 due to my torque converter slipping, but you're probably right. hopefully it won't amount to anything. Thanks

Its toast. Mine did the same thing as it was dieing. If a VP starts doing anything other than normal you can bet its about to go out. Just sold my 24V because of that reason. Two VPS and 4 lift pumps.

Ya I use to have a powerstroke, I sold a few weeks ago the 7.3 was great but I coulden't buy a 6leaker. I just bought a 06 cummins don't really know how it runs yet I took it in to the shop for chip, turbo, fuel pump, manifold, intake, injectors, lift, traction bars, and I alos put 7" stacks on it.

But what I don't understand about my VP dying is that I have the carter pusher pump and a brand new lift pump. Could the pusher pump have been installed wrong? I lost my last VP right after the pump got put in...

what kinda fuel pressure are you seeing? that will tell you if it is your lp. just cause it is a new pump does not mean it aint dying.....it happens, rare, but it happens

Its not just the new lift pump though, I have a auxillary carter pump in there as well. at the time of installation it was giving my 29-30psi at idle. When BD installed the aux. pump, they disconnected my fuel pressure guage because it was a 0-15psi, not a 0-30. Right now I don't have a pressure reading.
