Blower Motor Resistor

I finally got around to trying to find this resistor you all talk about because I only have a high setting on my fan. The only thing I could find was a white ceramic block with coils in it. When I pulled it out, it came out in chunks so I assume this is the problem, but it doesn't sound like what was being decribed in previous threads. Can anyone elaborate on this for me.

I knew the odds had to be turning in my favor, sooner or later somebody was bound to give me the answer I wanted instead of just always trying to tell me the truth. Thanks
