Blowby Issue

I just bought an 03 with 283,000 miles on it. When the truck is running there is alot of blowby coming out of the breather. It looks like there is an exhaust pipe under the engine its so bad. Truck still has plenty of power, no codes, and only a very slight miss occasionally at an idle?

If its rings Ill do them in a few weeks, but I want to make sure thats what it is. Any help fellas?

isolate the turbo first, and retest. do a compression test. do a leak down test-maybe its a valve/ burnt seat.

do some testing, before you just "throw a set of rings at it" Do a few tests and make sure what it is.

We should have the stuff at work to do a compression test

How do I go about isolating the turbo though?

remove the turbo drain. put a bucket under it. run engine. you will obviously be pumping engine oil through the turbo and not returning it to the sump, so don't run it longer than nessissary to rule out the turbo. no more than 1 minute.

if the turbo seals are worn enough, the compressor wheel will push air into the crankcase, through the turbo drain line.

I;m not saying its not the rings or a burnt kit, just rule out the external easy to test items. and compression and leak down will tell you what exactly is going on in each hole.
