black oil

2004 oil stay black even after you chage oil and fill up pull dip stick oil is black anyone run into this

Totally normal on the 04.5's and later. Something to do with the third injector event and the way soot is suspended in the oil. You'd rather see it black than clear. Most that have Oil annalys done fiind it to be a very negative amount of lab result shown, just that it;'s black.

good question, should 04.5+ think of a bypass filter just for this reason?

a bypass filter will not stop the oil from turning black no matter what the manufacturer's literature says. the soot particles are much to small to be trapped in the filter.

I agree with dodgezilla, a bypass filter won't keep it from turning black. My oil is really black but oil analysis comes back good with low soot.
