When are billet shafts needed?
Decided that I'm going to be taking the next step with my truck. In addition to what I have done already, plans are as follows...
-Smarty
-Twins (stock over S400)
-150 HP+ sticks (dunno how much those twins could handle)
This is a DD/street truck. It may see a dyno or a dragstrip occasionally, but very few boosted launches and my towing will never be heavier than a Jeep on a trailer.
In addition to a TC/VB and supporting trans mods I was thinking that a billet input shaft is needed, but what about an output shaft? Your opinions and experiences please...

A full on rebuild with added clutches tc/vb billet input and probably output too if you plan to do any boosted launches. A flexplate wouldn't be a bad idea either. You're probably going to need a larger lift pump too. At 320k, you might think about just buying a new already built trans from one of the many builders...who knows how worn out yours is at this point. How many miles does your current trans have on it?

Def a billet input and I'd recomend a billet output aswell. But if you break an output it's not too crucial. You dont have to remove the whole trans, just the driveshaft, transfer case and the rear overdrive section and a tranny shop can swap out a new output shaft for you. But If you dont ever want to have to worry about doing that go billet.

How big are your tires? How hard are you planning on launching the rig on a 4X4 boost blast? I would go for a total race tranny as you will have tons of torque with the twins. Even race tranny die, so break what ya got then break the new stuff. My last race tranny was so broke that the casing was cracked. Lost the intermediate shaft, no boost launches either. If you baby the truck, the current tranny might last some. Change the tranny filter oil (all of the oil) often as your filter will start to plug-up with debris, I change mine at every second motor oil change. Remember be nice to the ricers
