What is the biggest tire I can put on my truck without any rubbing problems? I've had 285's, would 315's be ok?

Stock height/rims 285 is max (Maybe some 295s). With the right rims some are running 305s. 315s would need a 2" leveling kit, and still might rub a little at full lock/stuff.

I just put 305s on mine and now i, gona put on some 315s, my buddy has them on his with no problem.

35" with a leveling kit. Try Lorenz, under $500 includes new springs, shocks and spacers. Rides like stock or better.

I have a 6" skyjacker lift on my truck with 16x10 weld wheels and 35's. Could i get away with a taller tire than 35 without rubbing or would i need a narrower rim?

315's may not work on your factory rims. Did 99's come with 8" wide wheels. If so...your ok.
May get minor rubbing but you can learn to drive around it in exchange for a great look!

I was thinking they were 7" wheels (steels definately are), in which case I would not go over 285's.

I ran 315 75 16 buck shot mudders on my stock steel 7 in wheels. Tires definitely bulged a bit in the center of the tread. Impossible to scar up rims on the sidewalk with that setup. Did not rub with the 2" hell bent steel spacer. Off road when tires were caked with mud, the mud would rub a little on the plastic wheel liners, could hear it every once in a while on hard bumps in the gumbo.

Bought a "stock replacement" trackbar from Autozone, shifted axle some due to longer length, and after that left would rub lower control arm barely enough to make noise at full left turn lock.

Now have 285's, no rub at all, even with the autozone trackbar. Truck does not look as mean. Turns a lot better, feels faster in a street race, spins the rears a lot easier, but looks more stock for sure.

FYI: I could not air up the 315's past 35 psi or the center would bulge too much and make the lugs prone to cracking and cutting on the rock that is Utah. This meant they lasted about 28K.

heres one i havent heard, im getting new tires are rimse, have a heavy flatbed so leveling kit would make me go up hill. i what to put 315 60 r16, for those that arent as up on tires that is acculy closer to a 33 12.50 then the 305s. dont know wether to go with 8" or 10" rims, was thinking 8" incase i wanted to go smaller later. anyone think these would work? anyone know they wont?

Stupid question but how do you judge tire sizes. I always hear 31's or 33's or 35's etc... Whats a 285 or 305? How do you judge that?

315 60 r16 is actually closer to 31" not 33".

315 is wider that 285

First number is tread width in mm. 315 = 12.4" 295 = 11.6" 285 = 11.22" etc.

Second number is aspect ratio basically width/height x 100 so if you take 285/75/16 for example
285mm=11.22" 11.22"x aspect ratio 75=.75, 11.22x.75 = 8.42" of rubber outside of the rim. 8.42" above+ 8.42" below plus 16" rim = 32.83" tire

Low and behold, 32.83 is almost exactly what a tire calculator gives.

Third is obviously rim size.

255/85/15 only available in D load range, but a great tire for mileage I'd bet.

255mm = 10.04" wide 255x0.85 = 216.75mm = 8.53" or 10.04"x0.85 = 8.53"

8.53"x2 = 17.06" of rubber 17.06" + 16"rim = 33.06"/10.04/16

or 33/10/16

Pretty neat.

2002 with out the leveling kit and I get rub just bareley at full lock although it is enough to want to let the wheel come back a little. Running stock rims with nitto terra grapplers check my sig for size
