Question Biggest tires for stock alloy wheels?

This has probably been answered a few hundred times but here goes. It's getting close to time for new rubber on the truck and I want to go bigger than the standard 265/75-R16 tire that came stock. What is the biggest tire I can put on the stock alloy wheels that came on the truck? I have a 2" front leveling kit installed (if that makes any difference). I want a bigger, meaner look to the truck. I don't get off road much but live away from civilization, so good mud/snow performance is important. I do tow a travel trailer and a utility trailer from time to time. I suppose some minor rub in tight turns is acceptable. No brand wars please, just size info...

I don't know how big you can go, I put BFG 285's on mine and it looks a lot better. The ride difference is unbelievable. I haven't done the leveling kit yet, and still have the stock alloy wheels on.

I wouldn't go much bigger than the BFG 285's if your towing a travel trailer... remember you need the proper weight and speed rated tires. If you do NOT tow any weight...you can throw any size tire on that will accomodate.

The AT 285 and 315 BFGs have very close ratings and the BFG AT 315 75 16 has a fair weight rating at 3050 lbs per tire they tow really well for thier size. Side wall flex is not too bad either for thier size when towing heavy, For an oversized tire I would have to say thier BFG all terrains wear excellent and have great handling characteristics similar to my 235 85 16s that i used to run alittle softer ride a bit more flex but overall very similar considering that they are D rated and not E.

I have ran both sizes for over 250000 miles of a majority towing life and actually used my take offs as trailer tires on my tandemn axle gooseneck for awhile. makes it cheap to alternate tires off the truck and onto the trailer.

Though on a stock 16x7 wheel your center will ride a little high and wear out prematurely, look to a 16x8 for the 315's they seat up and wear better. For the 285s you should be fine youll ride a little high in the center but not enough to matter.

Please put photos in your Member Gallery. It is currently empty. I'd like to see what these look like since my truck has the stock wheels and the tires look tiny in those huge wheel wells.

I am running 285's on my '02 with a leveling kit and no rubs so far with 14,000 miles. (check photo gallery) I also had a '99 with no leveling kit and it didn't rub either. However my friend has a '00 with a leveling kit and 315's on stock rims and they do rub on his track arms if he turns all the way.

Take a look at mine. I'm running 305/70/16 on the stock rims. Looking to upgrade to a 315 here shortly (if I can make my mind up).

Yes it changes it, but very little. The speedometer and odometer show 3.73% SLOWER than actual.the change is so minor, that I just make the correction by adding 3.73% to my tripometer to calculate the MPG. I don't worry about the speedo. Rocky mountain suspensions has a calibration box that gets wired in if you want to spend $170.00

Just had Toyo/Open Road tires{285/75R16} installed haven't got but 20 miles on them. I checked out the clearance on them before I left the shop, no problem. They are wider so they filled out the wheel well alot better. I have flairs on the fenders also which made the orginal "pizza cutters"-{LT255/85R16} look really skinny. I will be making a run from Oregon to Alabama to see son at Ft. Rucker this June and will let you know how they perform. I am running 55 psi in each tire as I am not taking anything of any major weight with me. I will rotate tires and check wear when we get back as to how the psi wore the treads.
