I have a 2006 Dodge Dually, CTD. I have the stock tires on it right now but it's time to buy some new ones. 98% of my driving is in the road but when I do tow or go camping I'm on dirt roads for a couple of miles. I've been stuck a couple of times, nothing too bad. (I try to be smart about where I am and what my limitations are.) I would like to get a taller/wider more aggressive tire on my dually. I just don't know what size and brand of tire I should look at. I like the BFG All Terrains. I heard they wear like iron.

My vehicle and load specs are:
2006 Dodge Dually CTD
4000lb Cab Over Camper
2300lb Car Hauler Trailer
3300lb Chevelle or Rock Buggy
Family of 4 and 3 dogs
Fully loaded I'm at approxiamately 18000lbs

Any suggestions on what tires will fit the bill?

Something like this BFG All Terrain LT265/70R17. Stock is 235/80R17.

Or a LT285/70R17. Will I need a wheel spacer in the rear? Will they rub in the front while I'm turning?

I have 22.5 Alcoas with Hankook tires. The tires are 36.9 inches tall and all I had to do was install a two inch leveling kit to get proper clearance. Pics are in my gallery. Good luck in your tire shopping.

I have 265 Michelins on mine with no spacers and no problems so far. I wish someone made a taller tire that would fit without spacers.

How much space is considered enough between the tires?

ive been tryin to find some tires myself. As far as space goes id say as long as they dont rub where they bulge when your loaded, your good.

if your lucky you mite get 34k out of the bfg's thats all i ever got out of them with my dually's. their real soft and seem to wear fast if you tow a lot and run the miles

I have 16's(02' dually) I did a conversion and all I had at the time was my original tires which were 265/75/16's and on the rear if I kept them aired at 65psi there was about a 3/4 inch gap. I did'nt load it. I had a slow leak on one and at times I could smell rubber burning. I only did it for about a week til I got my new tires in, 235/85/16's. I think it might have been better if I could have gone up to 80 pounds on the tire pressure but I have limits on my wheels as far as air pressure(65), not sure if that would have helped much, but still real close if your gonna load with anything.

I would stay with the stock tire size. The Goodyeat silent Armour are a good AT tire. I think the BFG AT/KO are alright too. The Goodyaer have a 50k warranty.
Bigger tires cause worse fuel mileage and other problems. These tires are already 31" tall, not small at all.
