Anyways, i've got a 02 CTD, thinking of upgrading the airfilter/high flow muff..

First things, i searched all over the forum about the big honkin airfilter but didnt find anything really conclusive on how to do it or what the thing is really called. If i understand correctly i'll have to take the stock filter box out. is this correct? a brief look under the hood i couldnt tell exactly the easiest way to get the box out, hopefully it's just a bolt or 2? Can someone walk me through what i'm going to need to do to install this? and what part number or what the thing is called exactly? where to find it? How am i going to secure the filter without a box?

I'm not too interested in jimmy rigging anything. Any help is appreciated!

I don't like the fact that the BHAF's draw warm air from under the hood. Although the factory breather boxes don't really seal good to the fender opeing where it's suppose to draw fresh air from the front. I guess the air dam that comes with them is suppose to block the hot air awya from the filter.

I took my box off a few months ago to dump some grasshopper bodies out. If I remember right. You take the filter out and you'll see two bolts holding it down tot he fender. There might be a sensor to unplug. I don't remember it being any more than about a 3 or 4 minute project.

I'd like to keep the factory box, but come up with a way to seal it to outside air only a bit better. I saw on here along time ago where someone blocked the fender hole and made a bottom hole opeing intot he lower fender and used some sort of floor drain as an intake grill. It looked real good, but I'd be afraid of slinging a bunch of water up into the filter box while driving in a heavy downpour.

I have one and love it. Just grab the box and pull up on it and it will come off.

Just for your information you could put a intake fan in side your air box. Do a search for intake fan. Then send me a PM for more information.

Well maybe if should have said because you want to or need to? Not that it really matters anyway. I didn't need more air just thought of putting a fan in a long time ago and finally did. It works according to the dyno. My comparison was with not intake filter at all and with the fan and the fan won.

1. Amsoil dry EAAU4510 or the one w/the 3.5" I.D. It's oval and about 10" long.
2. Get a 3.5 OD, 5" length of pvc pipe. Paint black if picky about color.
3. Remove old box and insert pvc into turbo hose where the old box was installed. You can install the filter minder from the factory box in the pvc if you choose but drill it prior to install.
4. Install the amsoil filter onto the pvc.
5. Tighten both hose clamps down to secure.
6. Take a 6" piece of your favorite old garden hose and cut it length wise to cover it over the a/c line where the filter is going to rest. If not, the filter will rub and wear thru the a/c line and you'll end up w/ more problems.
