I installed a bhaf on my rig a few months back. very disappointed that I didn't do that when I first bought that truck. it's cheaper and makes a noticeable difference but I can't find the sock that goes over the bhaf. anyone be able to help out?

Old part number. The new number is 20-1085. http://outerwears.com/proddetail.asp?prod=2086

Did you see this?

I made the heat shield from the template (http://www.cumminsdatabase.com/pdf_f...d_template.rtf) in a couple of hours from printout time to painted and installed. Plasma cutter made it nice and easy, but you could use a cutoff wheel or even a jig saw if needed.

Here's a picture of mine before the outerwear showed up. I took the fasteners out of the stock air box and installed them in the new heat shield. Get a vaccumn cap to shove on the top of the passenger side shock, ot the shield will rattle on it.

If you decide to make the heat shield, a cutoff wheel can be used to score a line for the bend. Then it will bend nice and easy and you can weld up the bend. I had to do this, as I don't have access to a break big enough for the job.

Glad I could help.

is the heat shield that important? I don't have one and was going to leave it that way.

i got my outerwears off of ebay a few dollars cheaper. I dont run it with a heatshield, i noticed theres 2 small burn holes in the cover underneath other than that its fine, they could actually be dirty rip marks but i dont know. it works good.

I would assume that if the holes are on the bottom, they're from the air box mounting studs rubbing through.

I sat that the shield can't hurt by any means, beacause cooler air means more power. Keeping some of the heat from the turbo, downpipe, and engine away can only help. Also, it might contain some of the cooler air that comes in through the stock hole in the inner fender that used to go into the box.

To each his own, but I think if you have the capability to build it, or the means to buy it, it would be a good choice. My 2 pennies.

if u decide to make a heatshield, make sure use a thick enough gauge, because i made one out of some 16 gauge i think, and it was floppy as ever bolted down, so i'm not running a heat shield.

Mine is 12 guage. I don't see any need to go much thicker. Maybe 10 guage if you really want beef. No thinner than the 12 though.

Mine is plenty ridgid. Not flimsy at all.
