Bhaf...... It"s Awwwn!!!!!!

Well I picked up my BHAF Fleetguard filter last night at a truck dealership. I strapped it on today and now my truck really sounds like a jet. It does seem to respond quicker than with the old box. My wife cannot believe how loud it is. SHe said as we were accelerating "I feel like we are about to take off" then as I let up on the throttle she says" now I feel like we are pulling into the gate". It is great. Now my MPG will really go down.

I liked the BHAF but I think the scotty is what I really need. My BHAF got dirty fast and I don't feel like paying 40 bucks every year. I would rather pay the 200 One time and never have to think about buying one again. Plus the fact that There is not Cummins shops near my house. I am happy with the BHAF I had. lowered Temps 100* over stock airbox.

I put a filter minder on my BHAF and I have had it on now for about 25,000 miles. It looks dusty on the outside, but the filter minder hasn't moved (yes...it works).

I will get a Scotty also someday, but probably not for another 30,000 miles.

Can the threaded studs be removed from the fender? They look like they can easily pierce the filter.

Hmmm....mine has been on for probably 2+ years. It's somewhat of a dingy gray on the outside, but performance hasn't been affected.

I have the heat shield which is held on by 2 wing nuts. The filter sits on top of these. The filter has a wire mesh on the outside, and unless there is applied downward pressure on the filter, these studs will not harm the filter. The filter media is also quite thick.

Pull the mushroom-shaped threaded inserts from the stock airbox - the ones that slip over the studs. Press them onto the studs with the big end of the mushroom facing up. The filter can then sit on the inserts with no problem.

Watch your A/C lines - be sure the filter isn't touching them. My Jacobs e-brake solenoid on the firewall keeps the filter away from them, but if there's contact, split some hose or pipe insulation and put it on the A/C lines to protect them.

I think it depends a lot on which brand you buy. The Fleetguard can be attached directly to the turbo hose as the plastic collar/neck is very thick and stiff. Other require a PVC plumbing fitting (3" to 4" DWS) as an interface. I've was told it's a good idea to drill 2 holes thru the turbo hose collar into the filter neck, and use a sheet metal screw in each hole to keep the hose from backing off the neck. Mine deosn't seem to need it though.

Click here for the part numbers. The stock air box is removed and replaced by this filter. It attaches directly to the turbo inlet hose. It's about a 5 minute job.
