Just wondering has anyone run both of these brands and prefer one more than the other. I have had BFG's on a number of trucks over the last ten years and they seem to work great for me. Just dont want to rule out the toyo's because many around here not running them. Is it a price thing or perhaps availability

I have only run the BFG AT KO's. I've run eight sets of them. I have gotten between 70,000-80,000 miles from them. I live in the desert, but play alot in the mountains. They give both good off road and highway results. My truck came with BFG Rugged Trails. I have 75,000 miles on them now. It's time to replace them. I'll go with BFG AT KO in 305's.

like you i have had many sets of BFG's but not tried anything else also have stock rugged trails now that i will be replacing just looking for input on other brands

People that work in the bush in my area ( North Central British Columbia) generally say the Toyo's are better. They would be judging them on gravel, rock and bashing around a clear-cut.
A lot of the company work trucks use Toyo M55's which I suspect is not what you are looking for. They like them in all conditions except ice. Hard compound and no sipping.
The BFG A/T tends to chew up on rough gravel, but I think they are more aggressive than the Toyo A/T.
The M/T tires from both are good. I hear good about both. I have the Toyo M/T's in 295/70-17 and they are very good in my opinion.
One thing to consider is that Toyo offers more variety in 10ply tires. Or did that last time I checked. Unless you are going to a larger tire, I would recommend you stay away from 8ply tires.

Sorry, but I've never run the Toyo's. I'm afraid I'm not of much help.

I have the 285 toyo A/Ts on now....the only reason is I couldn't get the KO in 285 in a 10 ply, So far I don't regret it and I have 10000 miles on them. The 285 fills the wheelwell up better than the 265 and I don't have the power loss or major speedo issue that I would have with the KO in a 315.

The Toyo's are a better mud and snow tire , a lot better , the BFG's will get close to twice the wear and better mileage out of your truck . The Toyo's come with more road noise and a lot will depend on your needs to witch is best . I got tired of being stuck with the BFG's and the Toyo's cured that problem , but if you never go off road and see little snow the BFG's will get the job done for a lot less green .

I prefer the Toyo's. As you'd suspect the MTs have a little road noise but not at all bad. The Toyos have a surprisingly smooth ride on the highway. I'd buy the Toyos again and a big plus is that they can carry the load which I do frequently.

So far my Toyos are doing great, and ill more than likely step up to some 37" MTs if I can afford them soon.
The only experience I had with BFGs was a buddy having some bad wobble with a used set that were way out of round, but that doesnt say anything about the tire, just that the set he got werent wearing evenly when he bought them...

Have 35k on my BFG M/Ts... Expecting a lot more judging by tread ware. Seen way too many Toyos wear out in 35k or less completely... I'm not rich enough to replace tires that often, so I replace mine with another set of BFGs

I have run both the TOYO's and the BFG's in both the AT's and MT's. The TOYO AT's are terrible in snow/ice, the BFG's perform better in snow/ice. The TOYO MT's are great in snow/ice, the BFG's are slightly less performing in snow/ice. Road noise is nothing/nill with the AT's in both types but the TOYO MT's generate a LOT of noise, much more than the BFG's. So far, I can say that the BFG AT's have given me the longest service wear over the BFG MT's or the TOYO AT/MT's, quite a bit more. Both the TOYO and the BFG AT's have given me about the same fuel mileage, both the MT's have dropped fuel mileage considerably.

Tires really do become kind of a personal thing in how you use your truck and driving conditions. The stock Rugged Trails that came on my truck were pretty much worthless because of my driving conditions. They would be OK I guess for someone who drove highways all the time and rarely encountered bad weather, fair weather tire for sure. They did not play well on the loose gravel roads-tractions was non-existant except at a creep, rain was a nightmare-unless you like to hydroplane a lot or travel at a creep, after driving with them once on icy and snowy roads - well, they were history in no time flat and I went to the BFG AT KO's. I have had tons of good service and performance out of the BFG AT's and they have the same weight rating as the TOYO-albeit a lesser ply rating, but I understand that BFG has gone to a 10-ply since I got mine in 2006. I tow a lot, heavy tows more often than not, and they hold up to ALL that I put them through. Staying on top of tire pressure is the true secret to the BFG AT's, they are not forgiving when you do not keep up with the right pressures and rotation. I will replace them some day with another set, I have been very happy with them.
