BFG A/T vs Cooper Discovery ST vs Toyo A/T
I've read all the threads, but I am still having a tough time making up my mind on some new sneakers. Do i stick with the BFG in a 235/85r16? Or I was thinking the Cooper discovery ST in a 255/85r16. I also hear good things about toyo's. Pro's and Con's of either set up?

BFG's: Never impressed me, expensive, bad in the mud, but look nice and are well known. Shows off your investment.
Toyo's: Expensive, nice tire, quiet, expensive, good in most terrains, wear well, expensive, long life, good mileage, and expensive. Oh yeah, and they cost a lot...
Cooper's: Reasonably priced, a bit louder, wear well, more aggressive, decent in the mud, pull hard in packed snow.
Personally, I think the Cooper ST's are the best bang for the buck by a long shot.

Yup, In the sizes you mention.... The MT-55 is THE BEST.... if you can find them.
I've had the others and BFG is the best for mileage. Only drawback the the BFG A/T is it clogs easily in Mud.... but for 10,000 more miles (my experience) I can live with it.
In your part of the country, I would get the new BFG KM's instead of the AT's. They are just as quiet and clear mud and wet snow much better. JMO

The Toyo's are "E" rated and load rated to 450# more/tire than the Coops. I had 285-70-16's on my '99. They killed the vibration that started with BFG AT's.

Hmph.. I am on my third set of BFG AT-KO's and they are great for me with the snow and slush we get 6 months of the year. I get good life out of them and they are not as good on wet pavement.
The other tire I was really close to getting was the Bridgestone Dueler REVO. They are supposed to be the best of all worlds if you look at the tirerack.com listings.

I've been happy with the BFG's I've run in the past. I've got a set of Cooper ST's now, and have had them on 2 of my work trucks. I really like them, other than I never have got much mileage out of them. Gravel and rocky roads chew em up pretty quick...

Thanks for all the replies everyone, still a tough decision. I think the Toyos are a little out of my price range, mostly because I would really like to go with the 255/85r16 size. I also like the BFG MT KM2, but again, a little pricey. The Coopers sound pretty good. How did your fuel mileage differ when you went with the bigger tires?

I'm another guy who's happy with my 285/70R-17 BFG A/T's. I got them this fall and they've been doing great in the -35 cold, on ice and through tons of snow. They are shockingly quiet on the road, (which I definitely didn't expect considering the tread pattern).
For me, it was between these and the goodyear silent armor. So far, I'm very happy with my decision.

The Goodyear Silient Armor is worth looking at. Does all things well and it is quit. Tires wear well, 50k warranty. Probably a little less than BFG AT KO's. I have the BFG's on my Nissan 4x4, they wear very well.
