Just another tire question!!! Will the bfg 295's fit on a 2500 ctd with out spacers or is a 285 the way to go. Also after reading all the threads on increasing tire size I am a little confused about exactly what negative effects can arise. I realize the speedo will be out, but no big deal there. What I am worried about is will my transmision start shifting funny esp when towing my buddies 22' boat( will the tc lockup be affected)?? Also how about braking??? If I go to the dealer to have them reprogram the computer will that correct any changes created by the increased tire size?? Or is the superlift gizmo the best way to go?? Sorry to beat this horse to death just don't want to create trouble thanks for any help !!!!

I run 305's on mine with stock suspension, on 10" rims..They rub at full lock on the back of the inner fender is all..Haven't noticed any gaps in the transmission, or shifting..Noticed that at 70 mph, I run about 200rpm less than I did with the stockers..a little better mileage, but nothing to note..I don't notice any difference getting off the line, but I'm at pretty high HP, and a stocker might be different. 295's will fit fine..you shouldn't notice much if any difference.

I'd go with the 295's. Not only do they look better, they will perform better in adverse conditions..mud, snow, sand and so on. The extra inch over the 285's will help, maybe not enough for you to notice, but the truck will. Like FMF said, they shouldnt rub much, unless turns are taken too fast, or that boat some how gains some weight. Your tranny should hold up fine, unless you decide to go w/ some 38's!! You might be able to tell a difference in braking, but not enough to worry about.

FYI-- there are formulas you can use to calculate your actual speed with oversize tires instead of having your spedometer re-calibrated. Might be the cheaper way to go- but thats me-a poor college kid.

Try this website, if you look under the index on the left side you will see "Tire Size Calculator" under the Tech section. It'll tell you just about every difference from speed to size and you can compare two tire sizes side-by-side.

BTW-- 295s are NOT an inch taller than 285s. Think about it, one tire is ONE cm wider, and the height is only 75% of that. Multiply by two, and you get 1.5cm taller, which is right around a HALF inch taller.

I would still go wiht he 295s-- much higher load rating.

I just got my BFG's a month ago & wondered what the going pressure is for the rears. Mine are at 25 pounds, but still don't seem to make full (flat) contact. The bed is empty also.

I'm running 295's on the stock wheels and i just barely get a little rub when at full crank. The speedo will be 5% off which isn't to bad. Superchips performance tuner lets your reprogram the computer for the tire size, if your interested in that.

neverenufhp I have had my tires for about a month also and i can't get them to make full contact either. I think it must just be the way the tire is designed. I'm guessing when they get a little wear on them it will even out. and 25psi is fairly low, i probably wouldn't go lower than that

25PSI ??? And they don't look flat to you ???.... I would check my air gauge. My BFG Commercial studded are load range "E" filled at 65PSI and they have a little squish on the side walls, nothing outa the norm though. What size are your tires? It will tell you on the side wall what the rated PSI should be.

25 psi.........NO WAY! You'll ruin them rather quickly unless you're running that low offroad, crawling over rocks.

I run 65 up front and 55 in the rears.

They're 55 in the front at least. It's got the same bulge as the rears do at 25. Possibly the rims are too skinny to make it very flat, they are the 10 hole aluminums that are 9.75" wide. Swampers run really low air usually, my buddy runs 22psi on his 35's. Except his is a Toyota.....Well I guess I'll push em up to 45 and try it out, a couple burnouts should make it wear really even! 8)
