Best to get the cleaning kit that they sell for about $10 and has instructions right on box.

Just DON'T over oil it ... thats what you hear people complaining about... the owners themselves OVER-OILING the filter after cleaning, then they blame K&N

I spray it down with Fantastic, it's way cheaper than the K&N stuff.

Then I rinse with warm water from the inside - out and set it in front of a fan to dry.

Oil each pleat with the aerosol can from about 6" away.

Allow a couple minutes to soak in and re-install

I have 172,000 on my K&N. I've never seen any oil in the intake hose from the filter to the turbo. I have had some oil film on the turbo intake fan blades.

Oil lightly.

IMHO most of the oil guys see in the turbo is lube oil leaking from the bearing. Totally normal.

Not that this is entirely related to his question, but interesting reading none the less.

I actually threw my K&N away before reading this, but the link is icing on the cake.

I simply posted a link I found that details a filter test. I had a K&N filter and was unhappy with the performance (intake piping was very dirty after using the K&N for the summer).

The information in the link seems legitimate. People can take the information for what it is worth, and decide from there.
