On my second napa gold filter and pan change w/valvoline atf+4. Not sure if that's the "best" but it works for me. Only cost me $40 to change it. Also did a band adjustment while I was in there. I was told that's one of the most important things to do with a stock 48re.

How difficult is it to do a band adjustment? Can you post some directions?

Filters, even Mopar, are outsoursed. All are about the same. Leave your bands alone.

I'm trying to figure out the reasons why people say not to adjust the bands when the service manual states you should every 30k. Why wait till it's slipping? To me that seems like it would be too late.

I think because if you dont back them off properly you could cause premature wear.

If you don't know what your doing you can tear things up.Read about ban adjust and you be your own guide.ATF+4 is made eaither a semi synthetic or a full synthetic.

Yea and not adding enough oil to the motor after you change it could result in a blown motor. That doesn't mean you should never change your oil. I just dont get it.

Well, i'm no expert but it wasn't that hard. Besides I wouldn't trust the "experts" to do it right anyway.
