best smarty settings for towing

What is a good setting to go with for towing with the smarty, i have a s06 pod with the latest software, i folled around with sw1,3 and 5. sw1 runs poor unless the rp is on 3 but i dont likle driving around with the presure jacked up. is a person better off leaving the smarry stock and adjusting the timing? i might need differnt software sense i have a 03?

I towed a 4-horse trailer loaded with 30 bails of hay, a 4-wheeler, and a dirtbike on SW5 with everything on default. Running 70 mph, EGTs never got above 900 and the stock clutch didn't slip any in 6th that I could tell. I don't know what kind of EGTs you would be running with your injectors but I had no worries at all.

I towed my 30ft 5th wheel toyhauler over the 4th of July, with Revo TNT on sw6, rp1, tm3, tq2. Mostly 2 lane hiway, 50 to 65 mph, no real hard pulls, I could hit 1300* fairly easy.

I am leaving Saturday morning(W/5th Wheel) for Helena, then on to Thompson Falls, I-90 most of the way. I have reloaded the Standard Revo(1st issue), I am going to run sw3, rp1, tm2, tq1, EZ/2. The reason for tq1, is I want to see if maybe my CC will work without surging, it will not on tq2.

I am fairly confident this will be a good tune for towing, Lookout & McDonald Pass will be the test.

If you run the stock sw, I do not believe you can adjust the options.

OK, back from our trip now for about 2 weeks. As stated earlier, Smarty Standard Revo sw3, tm2, tq1, rp1, EZ/2.

(Towed our 5th wheel toyhauler, right at 18k loaded like we were)

Spokane to Helena, back to Thompson Falls, Sandpoint, Spokane. This was one towing mother, I set the cruise on 70mph@1800rpm, towed beautifully. I had to kick the cruise off pulling the passes to slow down on the corners uphill! The highest egt's were pulling the east side of McDonald Pass heading west(back towards home) 1250*. I was soft peddling because of a temporary boost hose.....

Cruising on the interstate egt's ran 700*/900*, My mileage did kind of suck, 9.78mpg, 9.88mpg heading east. On the return trip from Helena west to Thompson Falls, then through Sandpoint into Spokane we managed 12.5mpg running 60mph, 65mph max downhill.

This is a good towing combination, I see no reason to change it.

We did have one mishap.... going east, up the west side of McDonald Pass right at the summit, I was backing off the throttle 1200*egt's, 40# boost, and BANG! Boost went to "zero", lots of smoke, we coasted to the pullout on top and stopped. I left it running, did not sound very good, popped the hood, and I could see my blue silicone boost hose off the turbo was split on the inside next to the exhaust manifold from clamp to clamp. There was some oil present but not excessive, let it cool down and shut it off.

Saturday, noon, on top of McDonald, now what. I called Bryan(DieselPowerProducts)Knowing he does not work Satudays, probably at the lake. He answered!, found the Chrysler dealership in Helena, they were open until 4 pm. Said he would standby in case I needed futher assistance, like overnighting me a boost hose.

From the top of the pass into Helena is downhill about 10 miles, we are gonna coast, and we did with a little throttle once we got into town just to get us to Carroll College where our Daughter was. Smoked like crazy, no boost and was a dog.

Chrysler, no got, can have tuesday $99 you pay express shipping. None of the Diesel shops had any 2.75" ID hose of any kind, niether did the NAPA, Murdochs, although a young man in Murdochs who had diesel knowlege called all over town trying to find one for us.

Long story, sorry, we were going to try and patch the burst hose??? We ended up pulling into a CarQuest, right as they were removing the 5 gallon bucket holding their door open, to close up. I walked up to the person with burst hose in hand, He said "that's a boost hose", "I don't have any, but I do have some Gates hi temp green line coolant hose".

Bought two 8" sections, put my truck back together and the one piece made it back to Spokane after pulling the east side of McDonald and then following river grade through Thompson Falls, Sandpoint, Spokane. It was on the verge of failure, but it made it. I now carry a spare.

"Thanks" Bryan, for helping us out and willing to overnight one.

Jess
